New member here. Check out my pics need help with gas tank

Post by Byrd562 »

Hello all 1stgencelica members, this is my 3rd RA. First 2 were 73 and 74. This new one here is a 77 gt coupe RA24. Garaged for 15 years. I picked it up a few weeks ago. 44k original miles, that came with classic pink slip and blue California plates.

First thing,
When i picked up the car, it would only start when spraying carb cleaner or gas into the carb. Car would start but won't stay on.

I checked the fuel tank, and it was filthy. I removed the tank and noticed, rocks of rust dragging on the base of the tank. Took it to a radiator shop and they couldnt repair. They actually made it worst.

So for me to get the car running, i need clean fuel and clean carb.

I purchase a gas tank from ebay. It came. When i purchased, it said it was for a 77 celica. But it was for a RA21. It is different from the he RA24.

Can it fit??

I think it will fit. Just use an external electric pump at the tank. Chuck

My old tank (ra24) has a tube connected to the fuel pump, and the ra21 tank doesn't.

Any advice will be helpful.

The ra21 tank is also a little shorter. So i can only mount 2 bolts.

Any advice would still be nice. Seller promised to send the correct tank as soon as he receives it.

I am in process of getting a correct one for Byrd562. I own a 77 coupe for parts, just a matter of getting it to the shop.
