Hello everyone, I would like to introduce myself to all of you guys. I recently became the new owner of a 77 Celica GT coupe. This vehicle have been sitting for 2 years from the previous owner and so when I took posession of it, I had to tow it home. With the help of a new battery and some carb chock spray, it started right up. I was like surprised 20R engine rocks :woot:

Got new plugs, air filter, oil changed and new filter the very next day. From there, I visited the DMV for registration. After paying for the registration and a few fees, I needed to have her smog.

When I arrived at the smog station, the smog tech stated that my idle was a bit high. Because I know the guy from previous vehicle smog, I asked him to time it and adjust as necessary to get it to normal idle. He proceeded and within 30 minutes, I was pretty damn happy. IT PASSED! :woot:

Next day, drove her to work to showed it off to my co-workers. On my way back home, I saw that the temperature gauge was going pretty high (it was HOT). After getting it home (seemed forever) she started vomitted a tad bit. I was pretty pissed off  thinking that maybe the smog tech did something to my carb or had something to do with her overheating now.

I have replaced the thermostat, fan clutch, new radiator cap and drained the old coolant out and put in new coolant 80/20 mixture. To today, she is still running really hot....is this normal guys? What do you think that may be the issue here? I noticed that the radiator does not have electric fan so do I need one? I have already ordered a new radiator and it should be arriving the next few days.

Because this is my first classic car, I do not know much about this vehicle EXCEPT that it looks AWSOME.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Water pump? I can tell that looking at the water in the radiator that it is moving, how fast? I don't know if it's fast enough. Flush? I probably have to spend some money and try to get it professionally flushed.

I read on the owner's manual (have that also) that there is a coolant plug on the driver side of the engine, in which you can take a 14 mm and pull her out to drain the coolant from the engine. I opened it up and there wasn't any coolant. What does this mean????

Anyhow, here is some pictures of her:

your car looks very clean,
only thing thats missing is some :) bumpers
for your cooling problem,I'm not so familiar with the 20R engine ,but it has to be a blockage in the circuit or the pump,
best to get some help from a pro,or check the forum"Engine and Drivetrain"
good luck

UPDATE: so I decided to take her in to have her inspected. Initial diagnose is costing me my left good pointing finger $250. Hope I don't have to sell one of my testicle to get her back. The pro is going to tell me why she rough idled and why she gets high blood often (overheat). Will keep you posted.
