16 yo daughters new 77 Celica GT 20R mostly stock

Post by rvance65 »

Hi, I'm Reed, the dad. We need to add an adjustable strut tower brace as the aligner said the towers are moving in hence the right pull and I saw the spec report he did. to do this we would love to go added and put 4 webbers on the side and a set of headers on the other. We have no idea where to start and its been 25 years since I last tuned a Datsun 260Z with webbers, I think 3 on an intake definitely not 6 :-)

We already put a nice cherry bomb muffler on it since the old one rust off. Just finished last night using an original vacuum diagram and it runs well enough for her to learn a 5 speed.

We are both so grateful to find this forum. She actually found it and I keep forgetting to go to the team here for help.

Unless there is some MAJOR rust or previous front end damage which has resulted in bent chassis rail(s)

or bent LCAs (lower control arms) or bent Mac Pherson strut(s) I find this hard to believe.. :nonono:

Aside from that, congrats on getting your Daughter the best 1st car she could ever own ! :2thumbs:

I think the previous owner put taller struts in with the wrong springs. I could replace or do the old fashion and cut them a ring.

the front end was just rebuilt and is very tight now. Its just rides high in front. Now that I think about it, I should get new front, maybe rear springs to match and let it all settle up front with some negative camber, which I have found more pleasant in cornering in my 1992 Mustang Police Interceptor and my 05 Lotus Elise.

Original Celica ride height is very high with a huge gap between the top of the tyre & wheel arch.

Here is a photo of my Daughters 1975 original 4x4 factory ride height with a lighter 2-T motor in it :lol2:

the front end shop said the frame up front was bent, you can even see a 2 inch slit crack in the crossmember. I'd love to just replace it and go with a-arms and coil overs, but that's alot of money and work. Is there a good swap to fix this from another celica that is updated with good height springs and struts. I'd like to get 15X8s on 205's up front if possible. I can fix the frame or a shop by stretching with cables and weldling in another cross bar or two on the lower before and aft the cross member.

Any ideas on front strut, spring swap upgrade please.

195 on 8" rim is a big stretch if you like that look.

195 on 7" rim already looks stretched to me.

205 on 8" should be good. I use 205s on a 6.5" rim for my autox set up.
