Toyota master tech...just bought a 77 celica

Post by shadow102 »

Hey everybody just introducing myself. I have been a toyota tech for 6 years now and recently acquired both my ASE and toyota master certifications. The reason i am here is because a good friend of mine about two years ago picked up his dad's 1977 celica (owned it since brand new) thats been sitting in a garage for years down in miami, he put a little work into it changed some parts but could never get it running nor has he had the time because he has been building an auto-x miata. Well now he is expecting twins and trying to finish his DP miata so the celica needed to be removed from his garage so i jumped at the chance to grab it with a brand new weber 32/36 for $1500

The car is a 1977 Celica GT coupe with 44k original miles on it, car is in super great shape aside from not running currently and a couple little odds and ends. Oddly this is my first toyota and comes after a long line of mazda ownership (03 mazdaspeed protege, 90 rx7 convertible, and my current DD 99 10AE miata). Its going to be a big learning experience for me as i know almost nothing about carbs (picked up a little here and there). Got some pictures as well.

thanks for the welcomes guys.

As far as plans...right now is to get it running and fix up the little issues (couple seals, mildew in the interior, hoses, radiator, drivers window ect) and then from there i will probably mod the 20R slightly and sort out the entire brakes and suspension package....whether i stay with the 20r after that i havent decided yet.

Welcome! Some great mechanics on here, not sure if there are other certified Toyota Master Mechanics, but great to see (another) one join. Very nice, clean ride as well.

Hey, maybe you could help me out with my celica too. :D It has a 3T engine. And I am not that knowledgeable at the moment when it comes to cars. I can build you a house though. :lol2:

Regardless of whatever else you do with the car, let me suggest you get a small 3 piece spoiler for the rear. It's subtle, but IMHO, makes the biggest improvement in overall looks for the coupes. Better than a front lip, better than new wheels, better than smiley bumpers....

honestly the spoiler was going to be the last thing i did still not even sure about it.... :D bumpers come first though the gigantic things on there bug me to no end.

I hear you. I'm not a fan of spoilers or flares. But to each his own!

Foxau2 makes fiberglass bumpers for your car. Front ones for sure. Steel ones are much harder to come by, though because they're all imports. They sold them in asia, europe and Australia, but not here! :nonono:

They can be had, yes, but they're expensive. Good luck with your hunt!
